I'm going to speak english here, I think it will be easier for Egel.

This extension seems to be very efficient, we have no more spam article created. Thank you very much, Egel. I watched for a similar extension about usernames, and I found this : http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Username_Blacklist which redirects to Titleblacklist. Is it possible to use Titleblacklist to block bot accounts creation ? I didn't find username blacklist but it may exist. Or we can have our own keywords, for example : "clean". What do you think about that ? Florian 19 avril 2013 à 13:48 (EEST)

However, I deleted two more pages this morning. But it is true that it seems devilishly effective. Good job Egel :)

The rules on MediaWiki:Titleblacklist that end with <newaccountonly> block matching usernames. I have just added a rule that blocks all new usernames that contain a number. Hopefully it doesn't block to much. --Egel 19 avril 2013 à 14:53 (EEST)

Some ideas against spam:

  • Is it possible to delete a user account? Not just block but delete from users database? I didn't find on Mediawiki website. We saw that some spam accounts registered before Egel blocked username with numbers posted spam. So if we can delete these accounts, maybe we will have less spam. Is it possible to use a bot which inspects the user list and deletes every zero-edit accounts? Moreover we will really know and show the size of our active community.
  • I saw there is a facebook extension, this extension allows users to log in with their Facebook account. If we block new registration and let new users use their facebook ID, there will not have issues about spam (is their spam bot on FB?). Of course, new users must have a facebook account, which is not good for people who don't want to use it. But I think it could be a good way to find new users, and especially younger users (and we can still have classic registration).
